Le Croisic
The wild coast extends for approximately 14 km along the western coast of the Croisic peninsula in the territory of the communes of Croisic, Batz-sur-Mer and Pouliguen.
A so-called "customs" path runs along the entire wild coast of Le Croisic. It was, as elsewhere, created at the beginning of the 19th century to facilitate the surveillance of the coastline, in particular against the acts of smuggling that could exist at the time.
The rocks of the rugged coastline have long been admired by artists, who saw in them strange shapes sculpted by nature. Tourist guides delighted in naming the various rocks according to their form. Thus were born, among others, Bear Rock, the Great Altar, the Sphinx, and Napoleon's Mask.
